All I remember is that I used the Akai software to get it to do what I wanted it to do. I think the other (horizontal) direction controls expression or something else. The joystick works by default, but I can't remember what it controls, I am pretty sure I used the Akai software to change the setup, so that the pitch bend works in the vertical direction. Bottom line is that it is able to be used fully within S1 for all that you might wish to do. If all this interests you I can try to find my notes on how to configure the MPK Mini. That hardware knob will then control the software knob. I mostly like to use my midi controller to record changes to various instrument parameters, so I set it into "Midi Learn" mode - this is where you right click on a knob or whatever in S1 and choose "Midi Learn", and then you wiggle a knob. I have some notes somewhere on how you can set the MPK Mini up so that, at the press of a button you can switch its control mode from "Control Link" to "Midi Learn" and back again. The MPK Mini will either work on the "Control Link" or "Midi Learn" but not both at the same time. The other thing worth mentioning is that the "Midi Learn" and "Control Link" abilities in Studio One require you to do some fiddling with the MPK Mini.
